"I've had a camera in my hand since the days before video -- first working in film, then moving to tape formats and now digital medias that can successfully duplicate the look & feel of film --we've gone full circle. Cinematic quality, specialized lenses, edited and post-produced on desktop computers. The evolution since 'film' has been dramatic and powerful, and entirely to the benefit of the production opportunities. Today I work as a director, sometimes shooting sometimes not -- the options offered by new technologies are tremendous, and I'm very pleased to be working with today's gear"

with the camera in my own hands.
Working with non-professionals on-camera is a delicate art -- you want to let the subject find their
own words, but you have to ensure that those words deliver a cohesive narrative. Following the
thread, asking the questions, and at the same time framing the shot and performing the technical processes is a challenge! Sometimes, you need the crew. But if the budget doesn't allow it, or the subject is better served by a light-handed approach, solo production can be a very rewarding challenge"

"This is a big country. You can drive for six hours to get to a ferry crossing, spend another three hours at sea, hightail it to the airport and board a thirty minute flight to make your connection to the six hour flight home. I speak from experience!
By sea, by land, by air -- Canada demands you use all three. Those same rules have carried me internationally,
all in the name of the shot.

Flexible travel times and days
Travel days billed at 40% of day rate. Production days scheduled for 10 hours. 1/2 day minimum @ 60% of day rate. I've driven from Cape Spear NFLD to Tofino BC -- and I could be convinced to do it again. If driving is the best solution, don't be afraid to propose it. Planes, trains, helicopters, ships, trucks and automobiles -- I've done them all! Accommodation and meals to be discussed. I've spent nights in ashrams & nunneries, five-star hotels and rain forest camps -- surprise me! Passport always up-to-date |
